eSIM North America

The easySim North America eSIM covers three countries: the United States, Canada and Mexico. A single plan provides one data allowance for use across all three countries, so you do not need to purchase a separate easySim country plan each time you cross a border.

If you are visiting only one of these countries, easySim also offers dedicated country plans for the United States, Canada and Mexico separately.

The easySim North America eSIM can connect to supported mobile networks in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Available networks and coverage vary by country and location.

In most cases your device will connect to an available supported network, although manual network selection may sometimes help if you experience a connection issue while travelling.

For travellers visiting two or three North American countries on the same trip, a single North America regional plan is more straightforward than managing separate eSIMs. You install one regional eSIM and use the same data allowance across the United States, Canada and Mexico, rather than purchasing a separate country plan for each destination.

If you are visiting only one country, a dedicated United States plan, Canada plan or Mexico plan may offer a wider selection of data sizes.

Yes. The easySim North America plan works in both the United States and Canada under a single data allowance. Your plan does not reset when you cross the border — whether you are driving across Niagara Falls, travelling between Detroit and Windsor, crossing from Seattle to Vancouver, or flying between cities in both countries.

Yes. Mexico is included in the easySim North America plan alongside the United States and Canada. The same data allowance works in Mexico City, Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Guadalajara and other supported areas without any additional purchase or plan change.

No. easySim does not currently offer an unlimited data plan for North America. All currently available North America plans provide a fixed data allowance for a set validity period.

Three things to consider before purchasing:

Device compatibility. Your phone must support eSIM and must not be carrier-locked to a single network. Phones purchased from mobile carriers may be carrier-locked, so check your device is compatible and confirm that it is unlocked before purchasing.

Data-only service. easySim North America plans do not include voice calls or a local US, Canadian or Mexican phone number. Your primary SIM can remain available for calls and texts on your home number, subject to your home network's roaming availability and charges.

No unlimited option. easySim does not currently offer an unlimited data plan for North America. All available plans provide a fixed data allowance for a set validity period.

The most common reasons are device compatibility and unfamiliarity with the process compared to a physical SIM card swap.

Not every phone supports eSIM — older models and some budget devices may not have eSIM capability. Some travellers also prefer buying a local SIM on arrival because they want a local phone number for calls.

For travellers whose phones support eSIM and who do not need a local number, the main advantage is convenience — there is no physical SIM to swap, and your primary SIM can remain available alongside the eSIM on compatible dual-SIM devices. 

No. easySim North America plans are data-only and do not include a local phone number, voice calls or SMS in the United States, Canada or Mexico. Your primary SIM can remain available for calls and texts on your home number, subject to your home network's roaming availability and charges. WhatsApp, FaceTime, iMessage and similar internet-based services can use the easySim data connection across the three supported countries.

Yes. Hotspot and tethering are supported on easySim North America plans. Data used through hotspot comes from your plan allowance, so tethering may use your allowance more quickly depending on what the connected device is doing. See our eSIM hotspot guide for more information.

Yes — and we recommend it. Install your easySim eSIM at home before departure using a stable Wi-Fi connection. Your data allowance does not begin until the eSIM first connects to a supported network in the United States, Canada or Mexico.

Once you arrive in a supported North American destination, switch on your easySim line, select it for Mobile Data and enable Data Roaming. Your bundle begins when the eSIM first connects to a supported network in the United States, Canada or Mexico.

Check your home network's roaming terms for the United States, Canada and Mexico before travelling, as call and SMS availability and charges may still apply. You should also confirm your device supports eSIM before purchasing.

Yes. Enable Data Roaming for the easySim line and set easySim as your Mobile Data SIM. This allows the eSIM to connect to supported networks in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

For your primary SIM, keep Data Roaming turned off to help avoid unintended mobile data roaming charges. Your primary SIM can remain available for calls and SMS, subject to your home network's roaming availability and charges. 

Work through these checks first:

1. Your easySim eSIM line is switched on.

2. Data Roaming is enabled for the easySim line.

3. easySim is selected as your Mobile Data SIM.

4. Your device supports eSIM and is not carrier-locked.
