The easySim South America eSIM can connect to supported mobile networks across the 10 covered countries. Available networks and coverage vary by country and location.

In most cases your device will connect to an available supported network, although manual network selection may sometimes help if you experience a connection issue while travelling.

No. easySim does not currently offer an unlimited data plan for South America. All currently available South America plans provide a fixed data allowance for a set validity period.

Three things worth knowing before purchasing:

Device compatibility. Your phone must support eSIM and must not be carrier-locked. Not all devices support eSIM — particularly older models and some budget Android phones. Check compatibility before purchasing.

Data-only service. easySim South America plans do not include voice calls or local phone numbers in the covered countries. Your primary SIM can remain available for calls and texts on your home number, subject to your home network's roaming availability and charges.

Remote area coverage. Mobile coverage can be more limited in remote, mountainous and rural areas, depending on the local network and location.

Data Roaming should be enabled for the easySim line, and easySim should be selected as your Mobile Data SIM. This allows the eSIM to connect to supported networks in the covered countries. 

For your primary SIM, keep Data Roaming turned off to help avoid unintended mobile data roaming charges. Your primary SIM can remain available for calls and SMS, subject to your home network's roaming availability and charges.

The most common reasons are device compatibility and unfamiliarity compared to buying a local SIM card.

Not every phone supports eSIM — older devices and some budget models may not have eSIM capability. Some travellers also prefer local SIM cards because they want a local phone number for calls. 

For travellers whose phones support eSIM and who do not need a local number, one practical advantage of a regional eSIM is convenience — one eSIM can provide mobile data across the 10 covered countries without purchasing a separate country plan for each destination.

No. easySim South America plans are data-only across all 10 covered countries. Your primary SIM can remain available for calls and texts on your home number, subject to your home network's roaming availability and charges. WhatsApp, FaceTime, iMessage and similar internet-based services can use the easySim data connection.

Yes. Hotspot and tethering are supported on easySim South America plans. Data used through a hotspot comes from your plan allowance, so tethering may use your allowance more quickly depending on what the connected device is doing. See our eSIM hotspot guide for more information.

Yes — and we recommend it. Install your easySim eSIM at home before departure using a stable Wi-Fi connection. Your data allowance does not begin until the eSIM first connects to a supported network in one of the 10 covered countries.

Once you arrive in a covered destination, switch on your easySim line, select it for Mobile Data and enable Data Roaming. Your bundle begins when the eSIM first connects to a supported network.

On most dual-SIM compatible phones, your home SIM can remain available for calls and texts while easySim provides mobile data. Keep Data Roaming turned off on your primary SIM to help avoid unintended mobile data roaming charges.

Check your home network's roaming terms for the countries you are visiting, as call and SMS availability and charges may still apply. You should also confirm your device supports eSIM before purchasing.

Work through these checks first:

1. Your easySim eSIM line is switched on.

2. Data Roaming is enabled for the easySim line.

3. easySim is selected as your Mobile Data SIM.

4. Your device supports eSIM and is not carrier-locked.
